I didn’t choose the Nurse life, it chose me! Lol! In all seriousness though, I was managing a fitness facility and enjoyed seeing my members achieve fitness and health goals! I wanted to do more, help more people! I decided to go into nursing to help people heal and see them go from sick to healthy! I knew nursing would be more fulfilling not just financially, but it would also allow me to have more of a well balanced work and social life!
I went to Fortis College and received my associates. I plan to get my BSN in the next two years and potentially my masters.
I work on a Cardiovascular management unit! It’s a step down unit!
Right now my goals are to keep learning as much as I can to gain more experience. Eventually I’d like to get into the ICU for trauma experience so that I can apply for care flight nursing in the next 5-7 years!
There are a lot of good things about being a nurse, but I’d have to say my favorite thing is the fulfillment I receive in my heart when a patient is genuinely grateful for the care I’ve given, or when I see a family rejoice at the good news about their loved one getting better and finally being able to go home! I enjoy making personal connections with my patients and helping them through the tough process of hospitalization. If I can bring a small amount of joy or hope in a bleak or depressing time, then I’ve done my job 💕
The worst part about being a nurse is going twelve hours without stopping for a pee break or water break! Lol
My Advice to new nurses and nursing students is to never stop learning! There’s always room to grow! There’s always something new to be learned! And don’t be too hard on yourself! Never give up! You WILL make mistakes, just learn from them!
